A scintigraphy with sup(99m)Tc-E-HIDA in a case of congenital dilatation of biliary tract

Description
This report presents a 12-year-old girl with a chief complaint of upper abdominal pain who was diagnosed as having congenital dilatation of the biliary tract by scintigraphy using sup(99m)Tc-N-(2,6-diethylacetanilide) iminodiacetic acid (sup(99m)Tc-E-HIDA). Biliary scintigraphy with sup(99m)Tc-E-HIDA produces only small exposure doses (approximately one tenth that of 131I-RB per 1mCi). It also provides clear imaging, permitting the visualization of the flow of the bile and the shape of the bile duct. It is therefore considered helpful in differentiating congenital occlusion of the biliary tract from neonatal hepatitis as well as diagnosing congenital dilatation of the biliary tract.
