Problem of remote maintenance at thermonuclear tokamak-reactors

A review of results of foreign studies devoted to the problem of remote maintenance of ''pure'', i.e. not hybrid, thermo-nuclear tokamak-reactors is presented. Main principles of the thermonuclear tokamak-reactor design and several most promising arrangements elaborated with account for the necessity of damaged unit quick replacement are considered. Requirements to the system of remote maintenance of thermonuclear reactors are enumerated. Technical means intended for its realization are described. It is pointed out that the character and complexity of technological operations performed by the system of a remote maintenance to a considerable extent is determined by the degree of tokamak design perfection and its preparedness for carrying out repair works with the aid of remote technical means. In any case however the main types of technological operations will be welding, cutting, edge trimming before welding, adjustment of details, weld control
