Description
The AGR concept is introduced and the aims and management of commissioning a large nuclear power plant of complex prototype design is discussed with particular reference to Hinkley Point B as the typical AGR. The power raising phase is then considered through to high power operation. The operational experience at Hinkley Point B now amounts to some 10 reactor years and this is discussed together with plant performance, constraints and continuing work programmes. The refuelling strategy is discussed together with the effect on plant operation. The short and long term future at Hinkley Point and the confidence gained for the new AGR's at present being commissioned is discussed. (author)
