Phenformin-inhibition of radiation carcinogenesis in female rats

Description
The increase of the sensitivity threshold of hypothalamo-hypophysial complex to the inhibition of hypothalamo-hypophysial complex with estrogenes, while inhibition with estrogenes-hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperglyceridrmia, is established 6 momenths afteu irradiation of female rats in the dose of 4 Gr. In 78% of irradiated rats neoplasms of different localization are noted. The introduction of phenphormine within the whole period of life started at the day following irradiation reduced 1.6 times the frequency of tumour development, mainly hypophysis and mammary glands. It is supposed that antitumour effect of phenphormine is caused by its normalizing effect on harmonal metabolic shifts induced by irradiation
