On the transformation characteristics of 2090 Al-Li alloy

Description

Al-Li alloys containing Zr often show unrecrystallized grain structures with a pronounced crystallographic texture. The 2090 Al-Li alloy was processed in four different ways with varying aging treatments at 300 F and 400 F up to 168 hours. The samples with a 0.02 inch thickness were annealed at 700 F and 900 F for 24 hours. The kinetics of softening and of precipitation were examined as a function of aging temperature. Samples which were aged at 300 F were fully recrystallized at 900 F. The grain structure was of a bimodal size distribution. 17 refs
