Computed tomography scan of ovarian tumor
- 1. Kanazawa Medical Univ. (Japan)
Description
CT scans of 84 ovarian tumors were reviewed. Differential diagnosis of benignancy or malignancy were discussed with regard to fat and calcific component, cystic lesion and wall structure of the tumors. Dermoid cyst and teratoma were given a specific diagnosis by detecting their characteristic fatty and bony content on CT. Differential diagnosis, however, could not be easy, not only between the dermoid cyst and teratoma, but also benignancy and malignancy. In other ovarian tumors in our series, much of benign tumor were presented a cystic pattern and much of malignant tumor were presented a solid pattern on CT. Thick, irreguler wall and/or presence of solid tissue component were helpful on diagnosis of malignancy, but they were not always pathognomonic findings of malignancy. (author)
