Description
The US Department of Energy's (DOE's) Safety Envelope Working Group and the Westinghouse Management and Operations (M ampersand O) Nuclear Facility Safety Committee have developed a set of radiological risk guidelines for comparing risks from individual accident analyses. The guidelines are intended for high-level waste tank operations and reflect DOE orders, Environmental Protection Agency regulations, other federal laws and regulations, and safety goals set by authoritative sources. Guidelines were developed for both off-site populations and on-site workers. Acceptance levels for the off-site-population guidelines are applied to a hypothetical individual at the site boundary at the point of maximum exposure. The acceptance levels for the on-site-worker guidelines are applied to the maximally exposed worker at a distance > 100 m from the point of the accident
