Description

The comparison of economic efficiency of the two waste management options ''direct ultimate storage of spent fuel elements'' and ''reprocessing with thermal recyling of radioactive waste'' was made in a way as to enable the results to be considered representative for the long-term development of costs for closing the fuel cycle in the Federal Republic of Germany. As compared with previous estimates, waste management will be significantly less costly in the long term, no matter which of the options is selected. The results obtained for the Federal Republic of Germany are widely confirmed by the comparison with values available from other industrialized countries and converted to the situation in Germany. ''Direct ultimate storage'' proved to be significantly less costly than ''integrated waste management'' (ratio of 1:1.4). (orig./PW)

Abstract (German)

Der Wirtschaftlichkeitsvergleich zwischen den beiden Entsorgungsalternativen ''Direkte Endlagerung abgebrannter Brennelemente'' (AE) und ''Wiederaufarbeitung mit thermischer Rezyklierung und Endlagerung des radioaktiven Abfalls'' (IE) ist so angelegt, dass seine Ergebnisse als fuer die langfristige Entwicklung der Kosten der Schliessung des Kernbrennstoffkreislaufs in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland als repraesentativ angesehen werden koennen. Gemessen an den bisherigen Schaetzungen liegt das langfristig gueltige Niveau der Entsorgungskosten deutlich niedriger, unabhaengig davon, welche Variante gewaehlt wird. Die fuer die Bundesrepublik ermittelten Ergebnisse werden durch einen Vergleich mit den fuer andere Industrielaender vorliegenden und auf deutsche Verhaeltnisse umgerechneten Werten im wesentlichen bestaetigt. Die ''Direkte Endlagerung'' erweist sich deutlich kostenguenstiger als die ''Integrierte Entsorgung'' (Relation 1:1,4). (orig./PW)
