On the shapes of 136,138Pm
Description
Two quasiparticle-plus-rotor band mixing calculations have been carried out to study the positive parity yrast band based on πh11/2 x νh11/2 configuration in the odd-odd 136,138Pm nuclei, in order to ascertain the shapes of these nuclei. In the case of 136Pm the calculation favors a prolate deformation but for 138Pm this model seems to indicate an oblate deformation for the above mentioned positive parity yrast band. However a more extensive and accurate measurement of the decay properties of the levels are felt necessary in the latter case for arriving at a conclusion in this regard. (orig.)
