How to achieve the antibacterial effect of polymer (nano) composites using light?
Description
The authors developed a new type of antibacterial nanoparticles - hydrophobic carbon quantum dots (hCQDs). Their main advantage is easy miscibility with polymer matrices, which significantly expands their field of application. They have unique physicochemical and antibacterial properties and are able to produce reactive oxygen species under controllable conditions using the principle of photodynamic therapy. When used as a (nano) filler in a polymer matrix, hCQDs can form a stable antibacterial material that does not degrade and is suitable for modifying almost all surfaces. It can be used mainly for the production of antibacterial windows, floors, walls, furniture finishes and other room equipment where high hygienic standards are required (hospitals, food industry, ultra-clean rooms).
