Measurements of polyethylene glycol concentration in wood by using the Rayleigh/Compton scattering ratio method
- 1. Tokyo Metropolitan Isotope Research Center (Japan)
Description
The calibration curves were experimentally determined by using water-logged wood pieces impregnated with already known concentration of polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution. The curves showed a similar tendency of the curve obtained by the standard PEG solution. The estimation of concentration of PEG in wood pieces was carried out by two methods : the Rayleigh/Compton (R/C) scattering ratio method and the weight measuring method. In the weight measuring method, the change in the weight of the wood pieces was indistinguishable at a PEG solution of 80% to 100%. The R/C scattering ratio method, however, showed good linearity at a PEG solution of 0% to 100%. As a result it was found that the R/C scattering ratio method was superior to the weight measuring method. (author)
