The Dutch government would like toe see that in 2007 2% of the gasoline or diesel fuel comprises biofuel, in 2010 even 6%. The question is not only which technology is the best available technology to convert biomass into bio-ethanol or biodiesel but also whether or not the oil companies (the 'oilgopoly') will control the market for biofuels

Het hing al langer in de lucht, maar half maart 2006 liet VROM-staatssecretaris Van Geel (Milieu) weten dat van de vijftien miljard liter benzine en diesel die Nederland jaarlijks verbruikt, in 2007 twee procent en in 2010 bijna zes procent moet bestaan uit biobrandstoffen. De discussie gaat over de vraag welke technologie moet worden gebruikt om groene grondstoffen om te zetten in bio-ethanol en -diesel. Daarachter ligt echter de vraag of het 'oliegopolie' ook de biobrandstofvoorziening zal gaan beheersen
