Neck production in Ni + Ni semi-peripheral collisions

Experimental studies on fragmentation have proved that experimental multiplicities are larger than those predicted by the Standard Statistical Model. Frequently, necks produce intermediate mass fragments moving at a speed between the velocities of the target-like and projectile-like fragments. In a remarkable fashion, a model formed by three sources associated with the target-like, projectile-like fragments and a neck source, has been able to reproduce fragment emission of in Heavy Ion collisions at intermediate energies. An experimental study confirms this simple model of Heavy Ions collisions. Nevertheless, another report has criticized the simplicity of this model as long as when multiplicities are sufficiently large the intermediate velocity source turns out to be anisotropic. In this study we obtain Molecular Dynamics results supporting this simple model for the Heavy Ions collision Ni + Ni. (Author)
