Description

The MHD analog of the Rayleigh-Benard problem has been studied with a view to determining the possible existence of a strange attractor. For large times the simplest non-trivial extension of the Lorenz model is found to reduce to the original Lorenz model, suggesting that strange attractors are indeed possible in MHD flow. We have also found energy-like conservation laws which can serve to determine the size of the attractor in phase space. These laws restrict the admissible truncations embodying generalizations of the Lorenz model
