Report of the special experts' committee of the cancer therapy with particle beams

Description

This report, conceivably useful for promoting the particle beam therapy in future, describes activities concerning the worldwide investigation of the therapeutic particle beam facilities, results and analysis of proton and carbon beam therapies done by Tsukuba University and National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), respectively, and proposal of the popular equipment for the therapy and of the guideline preparation for its introduction. The report is composed from following chapters: Investigation of the therapeutic particle beam (proton and heavy particle beams) facilities and their representatives; actual results of the particle beam (proton and heavy particle beams) therapy-statistics of irradiation parameters in Tsukuba (analysis and consideration) and in NIRS (patients classification, horizontal/vertical beam and parameter analysis); plans for the facilities (assessment of patient number, cost, man-factors, organization and facility/equipment); therapeutic schedule (clinical trial stages and protocol for the heavy ion therapy, procedure, methods for irradiation field and equipments, and PET); a proposal for the popular equipment of particle beam (small synchrotron and its design); supplement; and reference materials.
