Carbon monoxide activation by organoactinides. Migratory CO insertion into metal-hydrogen bonds to produce mononuclear formyls

  • 1. Northwestern Univ., Evanston, IL

Description

Spontaneous and rapid insertion of CO into certain organoactinide hydrides is reported. The sterically unencumbered bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) 5f hydrides such as (Th[(CH3)5C5]2(μ-H)H)2 react rapidly with excess CO at -780C. The carbonylation of alkoxy hydroxides is also described. Thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of the reactions are reported
