Thermophysical properties of a nuclear solvent, N,N,N',N- Tetra-2-ethylhexyl diglycolamide(TEHDGA)/n dodecane

  • 1. Reprocessing R and D Division, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)

Description

N,N,N',N'-tetra-2-ethylhexyl diglycolamide (TEHDGA) in n-dodecane is being emerged as promising extractant for the separation of trivalent actinides and lanthanides from the high-level liquid waste generated from the aqueous reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. Density and viscosity of a binary mixture, TEHDGA and n-dodecane were measured as function of various parameters such as temperature, composition and absorbed gamma radiation dose. This experimental data was used to determine thermo-physical properties such as excess molar volume, viscosity deviation, apparent molar volume etc. In addition, activation energy for viscous flow, enthalpy and entropy changes of activation for TEHDGA/n-dodecane were obtained at various absorbed doses
