177 Core Nuclear Design for HPR1000

  • 1. Science and Technology on Reactor System Design Technology Laboratory, Nuclear Power Institute of China, Chengdu (China)

Description

HPR1000 is the third generation PWR with its intellectual property owned by China. The core consists of 177 fuel assemblies which can not only improve the power output but also appropriately reduce the linear power density to ensure the safety margin. The 18 month refueling strategy is adopted for HPR1000 equilibrium cycles and a plant availability factor of more than 90% can be achieved. HPR1000 uses the IN-OUT reload manner and the batch average discharged burnup is deeper than 45000 MW · d/t(U). In any operation condition, the temperature coefficient for the moderator and the fuel are both negative, and thus the core has a good inherent negative feedback characteristic. HPR1000 has two independent shutdown systems. The reactor can be immediately and effectively brought to shutdown state and enough shutdown margin can be maintained in any emergence condition even though a control rod with greatest worth is stuck out of the core. The Mode-G operation strategy with good operation flexibility is adopted for HPR1000. With Mode-G, HPR1000 can perform flexible operation, such as load following and load step. The power online monitoring system is equipped to monitor the 3D power distribution during operation. (authors)
