Assessment of curative resection of carcinoma of the head of the pancreas based on CT and angiography
Description
Results of extended resection and diagnostic accuracy of computed tomography (CT) and abdominal angiography (SAG) were studied on local extension in 72 paients undergoing the operation of carcinoma of the head of the pancreas (duct cell carcinoma). Examinations in 60 resected cases showed that retroperitoneal invasion was most significant for histopathological curative resection. Twenty patients, who had macroscopic invasion into the splanchnic arteries, showed severe retroperitoneal invasion. The ratio of curative resection was only 15.0%, while that in 52 patients without such invasion was 61.5%. Examinations on diagnostic accuracy of CT and SAG in invasive factors revealed good accuracy of diagnosis. These suggest that CT and SAG should be useful to evaluate the histopathological curative resection. (author)
