Description

In a dc discharge, the occurrence of a trap for dust particles is possible not only in the strata, but also in the region of the narrowing of the discharge channel. We have performed the experimental study of the dust particle structure rotation in such a trap under the action of a magnetic field up to 1 T. Conditions have been selected under which, although signs of discharge instability in a magnetic field appear, this does not lead to a complete degradation of the dust structure. The dependence of the structure rotation velocity on the magnetic field is obtained. It turned out to be significantly higher than in the strata, and its direction does not change as in the strata. The rotation mechanism is indicated and the velocity estimations are made, which are in satisfactory agreement with the experiment. (paper)
