Contamination of gouty sediments of three dams in Slovakia by organic pollutants

Description
This contribution report evaluates organic pollutant contamination in bottom sediments in three water reservoirs - Ruzin, Zemplinska Sirava and Velke Kozmalovce. The analytical data was interpreted by often used method - 'Canadian Sediment Quality Guideline for the protection of Aquatic Life', Norwegian classification criteria, Holland's 'General Environmental Quality Standard / Quality Objective 20001, Test Values and Warning Values for Fresh Surface Water and Sediment' and Slovak 'Zakon No. 188 / 2003 Z.z. about application of sludge and bottom sediments on soil'. We confirmed assume contamination by polyaromatic hydrocarbons in Velke Kozmalovce water reservoir, polychlorinated biphenyls in Zemplinska Sirava water reservoir and miscellaneous chlorinated pollutants in Ruzin reservoir. The organic pollutant contents in bottom sediments represented risk for surrounding ecosystem, but some of these sediments are able for their application on the soil. (author)
