Description
The insertion reaction of lithium into V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ and related compounds, V/sub 3/O/sub 7/, 9V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ WO/sub 3/, 9V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ MoO/sub 3/, V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ MoO/sub 3/ and vanadium trifluoride VF/sub 3/ was investigated. It was deduced that this series of vanadium oxides were alike in the characteristics of lithium insertion reaction, in which lithium ions are coordinated by O atoms binding to V and that o.c. electrode potentials of Li/sub x/MeO/sub y/ and Li/sub x/VF/sub 3/ can be expressed by the U-x curves estimated in terms of interaction between occupied and unoccupied sites. Li-insertion characteristics into VF/sub 3/ was similar to the case of V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ in the region of low lithium content, however, Li/sub x/VF/sub 3/, which has high lithium content decomposed to form LiF. These results were discussed in relation to the role of anions in the host
