Dodewaard nuclear power station safely enclosed. Decommissioning plan of the first Dutch nuclear power plant

On October 3, 1996, the intention to stop producing electricity at the Dodewaard nuclear power plant in March 1997 (instead of January 2004, as originally planned) was announced. The cause of this shut down was the lack of political and social acceptance of electricity production by means of nuclear energy, and thus the bleak future business prospects for the power station in Dodewaard, Netherlands. A rough outline of the plans for the dismantling is ready, and allows for a waiting period of 40 years. A Safe Enclosure assures the safety of the former nuclear energy power plant during that period
