Photoionization by intense line radiation in laser-produced plasmas
Description
Observed depletion of resonance-line emission from heliumlike C4+ ions at 308-eV photon energy is associated with photoionization of lithiumlike Na8+ ions, as evidenced also by enhanced emission from the latter near the surface of laser-heated sodium-doped carbon targets. The data are analyzed in terms of the total density of Na8+ in the absorbing n = 2 state, the photoionization cross section, and the relative population density of the radiating 3d excited state
