Properties of slanted target-beam pulsing system

Description

The use of a slanted target to shorten the duration of a positive ion beam pulse is described. This is a special case of the method proposed by F. L. Shapiro. Time resolutions of 0.4 x 10-9 s have been observed for the time spectrum of prompt γ-rays from a target during bombardment with a pulsed beam from the Brookhaven National Laboratory Van de Graaff. This figure includes the finite resolution of the scintillation counter employed in the measurements. (author)

Les auteurs decrivent comment ils ont employe une cible oblique pour abreger la duree de l'impulsion de faisceaux d'ions positifs. Il s'agit d'un aspect particulier de la methode definie par F. L. Shapiro. Au Brookhaven National Laboratory, les auteurs ont observe des pouvoirs de resolutions en temps de 0.4 · 10-9 s pour un spectre de temps de rayons γ instantanes pendant le bombardement d'une cible par un faisceau puise provenant d'un Van de Graaff. Ce chiffre tient compte de la resolution finie du compteur a scintillation employe pour les mesures. (author)

La memoria describe el empleo de un blanco inclinado para acortar la duracion de los impulsos de un haz de iones positivos. Se trata de un caso especial del metodo propuesto por F. L. Shapiro. En el espectro temporal de los rayos γ inmediatos procedentes de un blanco bombardeado con un haz pulsado del aparato de Van de Graaff del Brookhaven National Laboratory, se han observado resoluciones en el tiempo de 0,4, · 10-9 s. Esta cifra incluye la resolucion finita del contador de centelleo que se empleo para efectuar las mediciones. (author)
