Radiation immunobiology and immunomodulation

In this chapter the authors address the immunosuppressive effects of radiation therapy and antineoplastic chemotherapy. First, they consider their single effects; then, in light of a paucity of literature on their combined and integrated effects, they speculate as to how combined modality therapy may affect immune response and ultimate outcome of therapy. Finally, the authors consider the potential for immunomodulation in the cancer patient and its potential bearing on immunosuppression induced by more conventional therapeutic modalities
