Radiation sources control through radioprotection regulatory inspections in the brazilian industry

Nowadays, the Brazilian industries are using more and more ionizing radiation to make quality control of theirs products. Brazil has, approximately, 520 industries that use radiation sources in their work. They were jointed into four groups related to radiation protection inspection, such as: Industrial Radiography, Well Log Petroleum, Irradiator Facilities and Nuclear Gages. One of the objectives of the IRD/CNEN is to make inspection mainly about radiation protection aspects. This paper shows the methodology used to select the industries to be inspection and the results got during 1997. It was done 115 inspections, that is 41 in Industrial Radiography, 11 in Well Log Petroleum, 02 in Irradiator Facilities and 61 in Nuclear Gages. This represents 65% at southeast region, 18% at northeast region, 9% at south region and 7% at north region of the country. This paper also shows an analysis of the principal irregularities found during the inspections. (author)
