Description
Radiosensitivity of cultivated barley in relation to its evolution was studied by means of peroxidase isozyme analysis. The results showed that three zones with eight bands of peroxidase isozyme were observed in the seedling tissue of barley. A great change took place in the zymogram number of peroxidase isozyme after barley seeds were irradiated with gamma-rays. A new zone of zymogram with increase from one to three bands was found near the negative end. Irradiation dose effect on zymogram numbers could be expressed by a linear regressive equation as Y = A + BX. It was also observed that the radiosensitivity differed from one cultivar to another, and the difference of radiosensitivity was associated with evolution. Compared with the hulled barley, the naked barley was much more sensitive to irradiation treatment. The radiosensitivities of four-row one. It could be concluded that the radiosensitivity of primitively evolved types of barley such as hulled barley and two-row one was lower
