Ion-Bernstein-wave heating in the JIPPT-II-U tokamak plasma

  • 1. Institute of Plasma Physics, Nagoya University, Nogoya 464, Japan

Description

Ion-Bernstein-wave heating is investigated in the JIPPT-II-U tokamak plasma, n-bar/sub e/approx. =1.5 x 1013 cm-3, T/sub e/0approx. =700 eV, and T/sub i/0approx. =300 eV for P/sub rf/< or approx. =100 kW. When the (3/2)Ω/sub H/ layer is placed near the plasma minor axis, the bulk hydrogen-ion temperature shows a significant rise, ΔT/sub i/perpendicular< or =700 eV and ΔT/sub i/para< or =300 eV. The ion heating dependence on the magnetic field and rf power suggests a presence of direct bulk hydrogen heating mechanism at ωapprox. =(3/2)Ω/sub H/
