Long-term outlook of energy balances in the world

In September, 1983 at the 12th World Energy Conference in New Delhi, the Conservation Commission presented a global study of future trend in energy supply and demand up to 2020. The future trend in regional areas as well as in the world and also that in Japan are described. The energy consumption in the world reaches 18000 megatons in terms of petroleum in the year 2020 (6800 megatons in 1978). The substitute energies for petroleum will be nuclear energy and coal in the advanced countries, and hydraulic energy, natural gas and reusable energies in the developing countries. In Japan, the energy demand in 2000 will be 603 Mtoe and in 2020, 684 Mtoe. Petroleum substitute energies tend to be increasingly diversified, such as nuclear energy, coal, etc. (Mori, K.)
