Fast neutron emission in (α,2n) reactions: A neutron skin effect

Description
The cross section for the emission of neutrons with Esub(n) > 8 MeV in (α,2n) reactions on heavy (A = 86-208) targets is found to depend strongly on the incident impact parameter and on the target neutron excess. Together these results suggest that the reaction mechanism is strongly influenced by the presence of a neutron skin around the target nucleus. (orig.)
