Description

This paper presents a method to characterize containers with conditioned radioactive waste from the point of view of content activity, by means of a plant designed, manufactured and tested at the Institute for Nuclear Research, Pitesti. The method consists of the identification and measurement of radionuclides activity (gamma-ray emitters) in the containers. The principle and method used in this paper are based on multi-channel spectrometry. The installation is designed so that the container outer surface is 'scanned' by a High-Purity Germanium crystal detector. From the recorded peak areas and after the plant energy and efficiency calibration, the concentration of each radionuclide in the container is determined. (authors)
