Treatment of water from special laudries and sanitary installations of nuclear power plants
Description
Various procedures are briefly described for the treatment of waste waters from laundries and sanitary installations in foreign nuclear power plants. For Czechoslovak nuclear power plants the Nuclear Research Institute and the Institute of Nuclear Fuels have developed technologies based on precipitation with calcium hydroxide with the addition of other collectors or by the teriary treatment of the waste water using an inorganic sorbent (clinoptilolite). Both procedures have been tried at pilot plant level treating waste water from the special laundry for protective clothing at the V-1 nuclear power plant. 90 to 95% of radioactivity was removed and the content of surfactants was reduced to 3 g of sodium dodecyl sulphate in 1 m3 of water.
