Fuel assembly

Description

Purpose: To promote effective uranium burning by increasing the water rod region as the non-boiling region during operation thereby improving the neutron moderating effect. Constitution: The size of a fuel assembly is desined such that it can be contained in the orthogonal length of the control rod pitch, which is the standard specification of the existent BWR type reactors. This enables to increase the size by about two units of conventional fuel assemblies without changing the control rod pitch. In addition, non-boiling water substantially of the same amount is disposed to each of the fuel rods. Thus, all of the fuel rods are opposed to either of the water rod or the saturated water region at the outside of the channel box, by which the distribution of the moderater and the fuels in the fuel assembly is made more uniform. Accordingly, the reactivity can be improved to attain high burnup degree. (Takahashi, M.)
