The damping of plasma waves

  • 1. Department of Physics and Institute for Fusion Studies, University of Texas, Austin, Texas 78712 (United States)

Description

The damping of plasma waves is considered for both large and small amplitudes. Both reversible and irreversible energy exchanges between the particles and the field during the initial transient are discussed, and a physical picture of these processes is given. The late time decay of large amplitude waves is explicitly given along with a physical picture
