This chapter briefly deals with the physical fundamentals of radioactivity and the radiobiological effects of ionizing radiation and radioactive substances and then exclusively discusses the food chains as major exposure pathways. Particular emphasis is placed on the radionuclides 3H, 14C, 90Sr, 137Cs, and plutonium. Suitable measures for reducing the contamination of domestic animals are mentioned. (orig./MG)

Abstract (German)

In dem Kapitel wird nach der Besprechung der wichtigsten physikalischen Grundlagen der Radioaktivitaet und der strahlenbiologischen Wirkung ionisierender Strahlen und radioaktiver Stoffe ausschliesslich die Strahlenexposition ueber den Nahrungspfad (Ingestionspfad) behandelt. Dabei wird besonders auf die Radionuklide 3H, 14C, 90Sr, 137Cs und das Plutonium eingegangen. Massnahmen zur Reduzierung der Kontamination von Nutztieren werden aufgezeigt. (orig./MG)
