Description

Crystal structures of Ba2Ho(BO3)3Cl (1) and Ba2Yb(BO3)3Cl (2) prepared from a solution of barium and holmium (ytterbium) borates in BaCl2 melt are studied. The crystallographic characteristics are as follows: (1) -a=6.432, b=5.312, c=11.286 A, β=96.03 deg, V=383.4 A3, ρclcd=5.15 g/cm3; (2) - a=6.397, b=5.279, c=11.222 A, β=96.17 deg, V=376.6 A3, ρclcd=5.29 g/cm3. The structure is a skeleton of double walls of Ba1-nonahedrons parallel [110] and double columns of Ba2-decahedrons, oriented along [010]. The skeleton is penetrated by zigzag chains of Ho(Yb)-polyhedrons stretched along [010]. Boron atoms are in oxygen triangles
