Alpha-particle simulation by using NBI and fast wave of ion cyclotron harmonics
Description
It is advantageous to study physics of high-Q or ignited plasmas without execution of DT reactions. For this purpose a new technique to simulate fusion-produced alpha-particles is investigated. In this scheme, energetic ions introduced by NBI are accelerated up to the energy of about 1 MeV/nucleon with fast wave at the frequency of ion cyclotron harmonics. By taking advantage of the fact that energetic ions couple more effectively with the fast wave of cyclotron harmonics, this new scheme makes it possible to perform the simulation experiment under a relatively moderate operating condition (e.g., nsub(e) = 3.5 x 1019 m-3, Tsub(e) = 4 keV and Bsub(T) = 3 T). The formula for the maximum energy of the accelerated ions is also derived. (author)
