China foresees a nuclear capacity of 86 GW by 2020

In 2009, 11 nuclear reactors are operating in China totaling a production capacity of 9.1 GW. 24 reactors are being constructed representing a capacity of 25.4 GW. The objective of the Chinese government is to get an operating capacity of 40 GW by 2020. Some Chinese representatives have suggested an objective of at least 60 GW in order to curb the country's dependency on coal. This important program goes together with an ambitious project concerning renewable energies: the commissioning of 150 GW of wind turbines by 2020. (A.C.)
