Bone mineral assessment using conventional gammacamera

Description
The feasibility of using conventional gammacamera in imaging bone mineral content (BMC) was examined. Single and dual photon absorptiometry with Am-241 and Gd-153, respectively, revealed the following advantages: In the five-min measurement of BMC with 40 - 50 mCi, precision of using conventional gammacamera was comparable to or more satisfactory than that of using a commercially available bone mineral analyzer. Conventional gammacamera was capable of imaging BMC in a short time within the wider field of view, making it possible to define regions of interest in voluntary sites, and to image BMC over the whole area of the forearm bone.
