100% renewable energies will not be more expensive

The Fraunhofer ISE (Institute for Solar Energy) has led a study about the feasibility and cost for Germany of a strategy leading to a situation in which 100% of electricity and heat are generated from renewable energy sources in 2050. 3 different strategies have been considered and it appears that the 3 strategies have the same cost of about 120 billions euros per year which is approximately the cost of the today energy system based principally on fossil energies. The cost of today's system in 2050 might be far higher than today because of the evolution of the costs of fossil fuels. According to the study the transition towards 100% renewable energies appears to be both an environmental goal and an economic necessity. (A.C.)
