Preparation of uranium tetrafluoride
Description
Uranium dioxide is converted to uranium tetrafluoride under stoichiometric excess of hydrogen fluoride. The water formed in the process and the unreacted hydrogen fluoride are cooled and the condensate fractionally distilled into water and approx. 40% hydrofluoric acid. The hydrofluoric acid and water-free hydrogen fluoride are fed back into the process. (WI)

Urandioxid wird mit einem stoechiometrischen Ueberschuss an Fluorwasserstoff zu Urantetrafluorid umgesetzt. Das entstehende Wasser und unumgesetzter Fluorwasserstoff werden gekuehlt und das Kondensat durch fraktionierte Destillation in Wasser und etwa 40%ige Flusssaeure aufgespalten. Die Flusssaeure wird zusammen mit wasserfreiem Fluorwasserstoff in den Prozess zurueckgefuehrt. (WI)Files
