Tunable short pulse generation of distributed feedback dye laser by using a stimulated Brillouin scattering mirror

Description

To obtain tunable short pulse output of a distributed feedback dye laser (DFDL), a stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) mirror was used. The generation of the short pulse width is based on the effect of pulse compression of the SBS. The single short pulse (<1 ns) with the pumping efficiency of about 4 percent was observed. The pulse shape of laser output was like a single pulse within the resolution of our detector. The quality factor (M2) of the output beam was 2.2. The bandwidth is less than 10 GHz, measured by using Fabry-Perot etalon with 30 GHz free spectral range. We obtained the tuning range of about 10 nm only by tilting mirrors. (author)
