KTA 3211.4 specifies the requirements of recurrent inspections of pressurized components, to be met by: (a) Non-destructive evaluations for detection of operation-induced damage especially in the surface layers and near-surface layers. The tests are to be made at representative locations of pressurized walls (e.g. affected by considerable stress, fatigue), particularly at the inner surface; (b) tightness tests for qualitative evaluation of system tightness, especially at flange connections, stuffing boxes, and screwed joints; (c) optical inspections for evaluation of the general conditions of systems and components, and for specific inspection of single components; (d) pressure tests for integral inspection of pressure vessels and the walls of their pressurized instruments and devices, and related piping. These tests are intended to evaluate and prove whether and that the components examined correspond to specified standards at the time of inspection and therefore can be expected to continue operation until the following inspection as provided for in the licensing documents.
