Description
The paper presents the future evolution of nuclear power as a basic option for sustainable development of Romania, taking into account the availability of resources, technical and technological maturity, economical and social factors as well as environmental and public impact. The paper addresses the following subjects and items: 1. Energy sources and production: - Installed power capacity; - Present strategy and policy; - Future trends; 2. Nuclear power: - Cernavoda NPP Unit 1; - Cernavoda NPP Unit 2; - Nuclear infrastructure in Romania; - Least cost power and heat generation capacity study; - Romania's strategy for energy sector, middle term (2000-2005) and forecast (2010); - Unit 2 feasibility study; - CANDU fuel cycle flexibility; - Cernavoda Unit 2 - Plans for near future; - Contractual Framework; - Financing (Euratom, Local Funding); 3. Nuclear fuel cycle: - National policy, the past and the near future; - Uranium requirements and supply; - Front-end of nuclear fuel cycle; - Back-end of nuclear fuel cycle; 4.
