Positron beam monochromatization using wedge-shaped target-decelerator for increasing the capture coefficient into a storage ring
Description
A method of increasing the coefficient of positron beam capture into the storage ring by increasing the spectrum density in the given energy range at the expense of ionization losses in a wedge-shaped target-decelerator is considered. The ionization losses in substance are, on the average, proportional to the target thickness so that when focusing the beam on a wedge-shaped target with particle energy dispersion by coordinate, the monochromatization of their mean energy can be attained. The monochromatization method is applicable for positrons and electron at energies below the critical energy of a target substance. Parameters of the magnet-spectrometer, providing particle energy dispersion over the coordinate, and an optical scheme, executing beam focusing on the target-decelerator and then on the storage ring inlet, are estimated.
