Triplet state induced transient species derived from crystal violet: a triphenyl methane dye

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Chemistry Div.

Description

Sensitization of crystal violet (CV), in benzene solutions, by triplet state of benzophenone, biphenyl and benzene itself has been observed. The resulting transient spectrum and its decay kinetics have been studied in the 360-450 nm region. The observed spectrum has been attributed to triplet state of CV. The rate constant for energy transfer from triplet benzene to CV has been estimated to be 5x1010 dm3 mol-1s-1. (author). 5 refs., 2 figs
