Cooling of the low energy heavy ion beam and the application at S-LSR

Description
A new compact ion cooler ring (S-LSR) is under construction in ICR, Kyoto University. The research subjects of the ring are a physics of the cooled high density ion beams, the technical development of the cooling and the application study of the cooled beams. The injection beam is 7 MeV proton beam from the RFQ and DTL linacs and 50 keV heavy ion beams from the ion source. The laser cooling experiment uses the low energy Mg+ beam. The injection and the extraction system of S-LSR are designed not only for 7 MeV proton beam, but also the low energy heavy ion beams. The target vacuum pressure of S-LSR is less than 5x10-9 Pa to keep the enough life time of the heavy ion beams for the cooling experiments. (author)
