A routine method to determine radionuclides in the emissions from nuclear power plants
Description
When planning nuclear power stations, especially during site selection, the degree to which the environment would be endangered by the emission of radioactive substances should be taken into account. This requires radioecological analyses for every projected site. In these analyses, the conventional procedures for the detection of radioactive emissions, which only provided for the determination of the total activity, were not sufficient for an assessment of the ppssible effects of such emissions. Therefore, a new procedure for the detection of radioactive emissions was attempted by which the types and amounts of individual radionuclides may be determined. Owing to the cooperation of all nuclear power plant operators in the Federal Republic of Germany, a procedure could be developed with which we could monitor and analyze all radioactive waste water emissions since 1972. Bei der Planung von Kernkraftwerken, insbesondere bei der Standortwahl, ist zu beruecksichtigen, inwieweit die Umwelt durch die Emission radioaktiver Stoffe beeinflusst werden kann. Das erfordert die Durchfuehrung radiooekologischer Analysen fuer jeden Standort. Bei solchen Arbeiten erwies sich die bisherige Regelung zur Erfassung radioaktiver Emissionen, nach der lediglich die Bestimmung einer Gesamtaktivitaet gefordert wurde, als nicht ausreichend fuer die Beurteilung der moeglichen Auswirkungen solcher Emissionen. Deshalb wurde eine Neuregelung der Erfassung radioaktiver Emissionen angestrebt, um die Art und Menge der einzelnen Radionuklide zu bestimmen. Dank der Mitarbeit aller Betreiber von Kernkraftwerken in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland konnte das Verfahren entwickelt werden, mit dem seit 1972 alle Abgaben radioaktiver Abwaesser von uns vollstaendig erfasst und untersucht werden.
