Dense gas embedded Z-pinch designated with a relastivistic electron beam

Description
A dense Z-pinch plasma is formed in neutral hydrogen gas at pressures up to 70 atmospheres. The 5 cm long pinch channel is designated by a 100 micron diameter, low current, high voltage electron beam produced by the TRITON accelerator. The main pinch current is driven by the POSEIDON generator, which has a maximum output of V=2.4 MV, I = 300 kA and a pulse width of 100 nsec. Results of experiments at higher currents as well as streak and framing camera, spectroscopy, X-ray and N2 laser shadowgraph data are discussed
